Church Pharmacy Launches
Skinuva® Scar+ SPF for Sun-Exposed Scar Care
Scar management does not stop when a wound closes. For scars on visible or frequently exposed areas, protecting healing skin from UV exposure can be just as important as maintaining a consistent topical routine. Church Pharmacy has expanded its professional Skinuva® portfolio with Skinuva® Scar+ SPF, bringing scar care and daily sun protection together in one clinic-ready product.
A New Addition to the Skinuva Portfolio
Skinuva® Scar+ SPF builds on the existing Skinuva Scar formula with the addition of broad-spectrum SPF 30 protection. Developed for sun-exposed areas such as the face, neck and hands, it is designed to support the appearance of surgical and injury scars while helping to protect vulnerable skin from UVA and UVB exposure.
The launch extends the Skinuva range already available through Church Pharmacy, giving practitioners a more specific option for patients whose scars are routinely exposed to daylight.
More Than a Standard Silicone Scar Cream
At the centre of Skinuva Scar+ is a silicone-based cream matrix, designed to create a protective barrier and maintain a hydrated environment around the scar. Silicone is combined with selective synthetic growth factors, which the manufacturer positions as supporting improvements in the visible redness, pigmentation and thickness of scars.
The formula also contains hyaluronic acid to support hydration, alongside vitamin C, an antioxidant used to support collagen production and help address visible pigmentation. Centella asiatica and aloe vera provide additional soothing and skin-conditioning support.
What distinguishes Scar+ from the original Skinuva Scar formula is non-nano zinc oxide. This provides broad-spectrum SPF 30 protection against UVA and UVB exposure, helping to reduce the risk of sun-related darkening in vulnerable scar tissue.
Together, these ingredients give the product a clear dual purpose: supporting the visible appearance of the scar while providing practical daytime photoprotection.
Where Skinuva Scar+ Fits in Practice
Scars can remain susceptible to visible discolouration during the healing process, particularly when exposed to the sun. This makes photoprotection an important consideration within longer-term scar management, yet it can easily become a separate or overlooked step in patient aftercare.
By combining scar support with SPF 30, Skinuva Scar+ offers a more streamlined option for daytime use. Its clearest role is within practitioner-led plans for closed surgical or injury scars on exposed areas, where patients need both consistent topical care and daily UV protection.
The manufacturer recommends beginning use once the incision has closed, typically around two to three weeks after a procedure, and applying the product consistently for three to six months. It can also be used on more mature scars, although the manufacturer advises that the strongest benefits are generally seen during the first 12 months of healing.
Why Clinics May Be Interested
Post-procedure care is increasingly part of the overall treatment experience rather than an optional final recommendation. Patients want clearer guidance on how to care for treated areas at home, while clinics need products that fit logically into structured recovery pathways.
Skinuva Scar+ gives practitioners an opportunity to address two connected considerations through one recommendation: the visible appearance of the scar and its exposure to UV. That simplified approach may make the homecare plan easier for patients to understand and follow, particularly after facial or neck surgery and other procedures that leave scars difficult to cover.
There is also a clear commercial role. Scar care often continues for several months, creating scope for clinics to provide planned follow-up, review progress and support repeat homecare purchases. Rather than offering a general skincare recommendation, practitioners can introduce Skinuva Scar+ at a defined point in the patient journey, with a clear purpose and expected period of use.
For clinics already offering Skinuva Scar, the new product also enables a more tailored conversation. Standard Skinuva Scar remains available for broader scar-management protocols, while Skinuva Scar+ provides an additional option where regular sun exposure is a particular concern.
